One of the recent places we visited as flight attendants during our vacation leave was the island of Milos in Greece. We had a fantastic time, even for just 2 days on this island, and had left us wanting for more. There are a lot of things to do and the place is teeming with natural beauty.

Some of the must-visit places in Milos Island include Sarakiniko Beach, Kleftiko Beach, Firiplaka Beach, Tsigrado Beach, Plaka Village, Klima Village, and Plaka town. Here’s our Milos itinerary for first-time visitors of this stunning Greek island.

Milos Island is a place where you can find stunning beaches and crystal clear waters. It is also a place where you can find interesting archaeological sites and villages that are worth exploring. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Greece, Milos is the perfect destination.

Flight attendants usually get to have a layover only in Athens, Greece, so that’s why if you can sneak up some flights during a long holiday, it’s better if you get to explore the nearby islands of Greece.

Milos was voted the number 1 Best Island Destination in the World in 2021 by Travel+Leisure magazine. We only found out about this achievement during our visit this year. So we were quite glad that we visited the island even for two days.

Where is Milos Island?

Milos Island is located in the Aegean Sea, and it is part of the Cyclades group of islands. It is situated between the islands of Crete and Santorini, and about halfway between Athens and Crete.

The island has a long history, dating back to the Bronze Age. It was inhabited by the Minoans, who left behind many well-preserved ruins, including the palace at Knossos. Milos was also home to the famous statue of Aphrodite, now known as the Venus de Milo.

Today, Milos is a popular tourist destination, known for its dramatic landscapes and beautiful beaches.

The island has a population of about 5,000 people, and the main town is called Adamas.

How to Get to Milos Island?

There are regular flights from Athens to Milos Island via Aegean Airlines. The flight takes about 45 minutes. You can also take a ferry from Athens to Milos Island via the Seajet ferry. The ferry ride takes about 2-3.5 hours.

In our case, we travelled from Santorini to Milos Island and we were able to book the late afternoon trip and arrived in Milos early evening. The ferry boat from Santorini to Milos via Seajets ferry took 2 hours of travel time.

Getting Around in Milos Island

The best way to get around Milos Island is by car or scooter. You can rent a car or scooter at the Adamas port. We rented a scooter for 24 hours, and it cost us EUR 35 for the smallest automatic car there was. Motorcycle scooters are about EUR 20 per day. You will have to pay for the fuel.

There are public buses and taxis available but not a lot and you will be pressed with the time and schedule. So if you have an international driving license, it’s really much better to rent a vehicle.

Sykia Cave is a stunning cave that can only be accessed via boat. However, it’s not always accessible due to the water current. It will depend on the weather and current before you can visit this place. So, it would be best to ask your tour guide first. If you do get lucky, visitors can swim in the sheltered cove or simply enjoy the views from atop the cliffs.

7. Catacombs of Milos

This beach is a long stretch of clean golden sand with a narrow band of pebbles along the beachfront, which is sheltered from the wind by the most beautiful high cliffs. It was these rock formations’ magnificent hues that drew me here in the first place.
