So let’s talk about crashpad hostels and shared accommodations for this post.

Reading about it online has become a bit of a surprise to someone like me who works for an airline in the Middle East. I’m thankful that I get my own accommodation (shared between 2 or sometimes 3 people inside a 2-3 bedroom flat). However, crash-pad hotels are much different than the accommodations provided by my employers.

So why do these flight attendants choose to stay in such small and cramped spaces? Well, for one, it’s a much cheaper option than having your own place. As a result, many budget-conscious flight attendants opt for this type of accommodation since the amount of money they would need to spend on an apartment or hotel can be significant. Here are the reasons:

1. Cost-Effective: When it comes to crashpad hotels, the cost to stay there is significantly lower than a traditional hotel or apartment.

These are proper housing for the crew where one crew will have his or her own room. They might share a living room, kitchen and other common areas in some instances, but these condos have a dedicated room per individual.

These accommodations usually include basic furniture, a fully equipped kitchen, free Wi-Fi access, as well as other amenities like swimming pools or gyms. House accommodation can provide a great alternative to crash pads if you are able to find one close to your flight routes. However, these types of accommodations sometimes require a deposit and come with specific terms and conditions which must be met before staying in them.

That is why I was quite shocked by this news on Inside Edition about hostel-like living for cabin crew.

But this is a reality that is currently faced by many USA regional airline companies and the employees who live in these types of accommodations. We hope that one day, these types of situations will be a thing of the past and there will be a much-better type of housing for airline crew.
