Brief History Overview

In 1923, Walter Barda-Bardenau got the green light from the Austrian government to set up an airline. He owned a small portion (1%) of this new venture while the Austrian railway transportation company held 50% and the Junkers-Werke had the other 49%.

Starting with a fleet of Junkers F 13s, the airline took to the skies for its first flight on 14 May 1923, traveling from Vienna to Munich with Hans Baur as the pilot. After landing in Vienna Jedlesee, the plane was changed to a seaplane for the next leg to Budapest. This airline was overseen by the Junkers Trans European Union and flew to several places like Munich, Budapest, Nuremberg, and a few Austrian locations, some of which were serviced by seaplanes. However, by September 1926, this union was no longer operational.
