Every profession has its own advantages and disadvantages, just like the cabin crew profession. A lot of people who don’t know much about the job, often assumes that being a flight attendant is an easy job that everyone can do even with their eyes closed – but it’s most definitely not.
Being a cabin crew has its job perks and some particular downside along with it.
Why do people make assumptions?
Some people presume that the job is all glitz and glamour because it is the only thing they see. A lot of people don’t know what’s happening behind the curtains when crews are busy prepping up for every single flight.
However, if you’ll think about it, it is somewhat understandable. Most of them only see the cabin crews the moment they enter the airport and on board the airplane, and during those times crews are in their professional attire and elegant-looking. Not to mention that a lot of TV programs and magazines that only reveal their basic tasks or how much a cabin crew can earn. Therefore, it is safe to say that people’s knowledge about this profession is limited.
To make people fully understand what the job is all about, here are the most challenging parts of being a flight attendant:
1. Staying Healthy
Cabin crews are given different sets of schedule every now and then. Some of them might have a light one, but most of them are assigned with demanding schedules to the point where they can’t even balance their work and private life anymore. As a matter of fact, keeping track of what they eat or hitting the gym a few times a week might not be possible at all.
Since they are required to work whenever there’s a chance, many flight attendants would prefer to lie down and hit the hay rather than do their work out routines.
2. Maintaining relationships
Have you ever seen a flight attendant fiddling with their phones while checking up on you or handing out your food? Definitely not. Just like in every profession, no one is allowed to use their mobile phones while at work which makes it hard for them to stay in touch with their families and friends. There are instances when it gets worse to the point where they will suddenly drift apart.
Not to mention that since they aren’t in control of their working hours, missing important events happen every once in a while to every flight attendant.
3. Saving money
Flight attendants travel a lot – which is why temptation is hard to avoid. Given the fact that they are mostly in a foreign place, they see a lot of interesting items and delicious food. Sometimes, they can’t even help but overspend especially when they really like something. Saving money can really be a tough challenge.
